In her portraits, Chris strives to capture a unique "moment in time", to portray the transcendence of the human story and invite the viewer to join in at that moment. Her portraits capture moments unique to us as people, but they also evokememories that each one of us can relate to in our own personal journeys. "We have been given a beautiful world to live in, with each and every person being unique and every moment an extraordinary event in time never to be recreated."
THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED! UNFORTUNATELY,
FRANK FRANCESE IS EXPERIENCING HEALTH PROBLEMS
THAT LEAVE HIM UNABLE TO TEACH AT THIS TIME.
WE WISH HIM A SPEEDY AND COMPLETE RECOVERY!
The signature of a Francese watercolor is his use of big shapes, color, color and more color! He brings a new style to the time tested combination of color and interesting shapes. Color provides the stage for the artist's performance; shapes provide the characters. Detail is only used after the color and big shapes, positive and negative, are in place. "One must not overdo the detail in any painting. It should be used sparingly and with great thought."
"Combining my enjoyment of the intricate process of drawing with the wet on wet techniques of watercolor, is how I approach my painting. Most of my work is representational, depicting strong light and with an emphasis on color and design. Close-up and unusual viewpoints add an element of abstraction to the imagery, whether the subject is fruit, foliage, architecture or the figure. By simplifying a subject's light and shadow patterns, I accentuate the dynamic interplay of positive and negative shapes."
Quoting a former student of Sue's:
"... she is amazing. She had more content in her class than I had in all the painting classes I had in two college degrees. I highly recommend her class."
